Chengyu: Origins is a small, independently made app for learning Chinese idioms. It is built to respect your privacy. There are no user accounts, no advertising, no third-party analytics or tracking, and nothing is ever sold. The app works entirely on your device unless you deliberately choose to send us a message.
The short version
- We don't require you to sign in or create an account.
- We don't use advertising, analytics SDKs, or cross-app tracking of any kind.
- We don't sell or share your information.
- The only information that ever leaves your device what you send via the "Report a problem" function.
Information we collect
The app collects information in exactly one situation: when you choose to submit a report through Settings → Report a problem. If you send a report, we receive:
- The message you wrote and the category you selected (bug, suggestion, or other).
- (Optionally) your email address, so we can reply to you.
- Basic technical details to help us reproduce issues: the app version, your device model (e.g. "iPhone 15 Pro"), the operating system version, and the platform (iOS or Android).
We do not collect your name, location, contacts, photos, browsing activity, or any advertising identifier.
What stays only on your device
- Your progress: unlocked idioms, coins, streaks, and favorites are all stored locally on your device and are never uploaded.
- Daily reminders, if you turn them on, are scheduled as local notifications on your device. No reminder data is sent to us.
How report information is handled
When you submit a report, it is sent securely over HTTPS to our website's server. We use reports only to fix bugs and improve the app, and to respond to you (if you left an email).
Want your report or email deleted? Just email us at meiringpe@gmail.com and we'll remove it. Since we don't have accounts, a report isn't otherwise tied to your identity.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the only information we receive is what someone voluntarily types into a problem report, we ask that children have a parent or guardian's permission before contacting us.
Third parties
We do not use third-party advertising or analytics services. Our report feature is delivered through our own website hosting (Netlify), which processes the report data on our behalf and is not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Because the app collects so little, we don't expect meaningful changes often.
